Space: Above and Beyond is an American science fiction television series that aired on Fox, created and written by Glen Morgan and James Wong. Planned for five seasons, it only ran for one season from 1995–1996 before being canceled due to low ratings. It was nominated for two Emmy Awards and one Saturn Award.

It was established as Torpedo Squadron VT-5 on 15 February 1943, redesignated VA-6A on 15 November 1946, and finally designated VA-55 on 16 August 1948. The squadron was disestablished on 12 December 1975. It was the first squadron to be designated VA-55, the second VA-55 was established on 7 October 1983 and disestablished on 1 January 1991. [1]
It continued in this mission through 1 December 1976, [8] when it was home to Training Air Wing SEVEN (TRAWING 7) [9] and its subordinate Training Squadron ONE (VT-1) and Training Squadron FIVE (VT-5), flying the T-34B Mentor in VT-1, and the land-based and T-28B Trojan and aircraft carrier landing-capable T-28C Trojan in VT-5, respectively.
