Babylon 5: In the Beginning is a 1998 American made-for-television film set in the Babylon 5 fictional universe. It was written by J. Michael Straczynski and directed by Michael Vejar . [ 1 ] The film originally aired on January 4, 1998 on the TNT cable network , a couple of weeks before the fifth season of the series began.
In November 2001, Warner Home Video began distributing Babylon 5 DVDs with a two-movie set containing the re-edited TNT special edition of The Gathering and In The Beginning. The telefilms were later individually released in region 2 in April 2002, though some markets received the original version of The Gathering in identical packaging.

On May 12, Straczynski gave an update about the upcoming Babylon 5 animated movie on his social media. Straczynski stated that a final update would be coming in mid-June, and would include the release date and plot summary, as well as a trailer and information on how to view the film upon its debut.
