Actinolite is an intermediate member in a solid-solution series between magnesium-rich tremolite, Ca 2 (Mg 5.0-4.5 Fe 2+ 0.0-0.5)Si 8 O 22 (OH) 2, and iron-rich ferro-actinolite, ☐Ca 2 (Mg 2.5-0.0 Fe 2+ 2.5-5.0)Si 8 O 22 (OH) 2. Mg and Fe ions can be freely exchanged in the crystal structure. Like tremolite, asbestiform actinolite is ...
Asbestos (/ æ s ˈ b ɛ s t ə s, æ z-,-t ɒ s / ass-BES-təs, az-, -toss) [1] is a group of naturally occurring, toxic, carcinogenic and fibrous silicate minerals. There are six types, all of which are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals, each fibre (particulate with length substantially greater than width) [2] being composed of many microscopic "fibrils" that can be released into ...
Four of the amphibole minerals are commonly called asbestos. These are: anthophyllite, riebeckite, the cummingtonite/grunerite series, and the actinolite/tremolite series. The cummingtonite/grunerite series is often termed amosite or "brown asbestos", and riebeckite is known as crocidolite or "blue asbestos".
An examination shows that from at least 1971 to the early 2000s, products sometimes tested positive for small amounts of asbestos.
Nephrite is a variety of the calcium, magnesium, and iron-rich amphibole minerals tremolite or actinolite (aggregates of which also make up one form of asbestos). The chemical formula for nephrite is Ca 2 (Mg, Fe) 5 Si 8 O 22 (OH) 2. [1] It is one of two different mineral species called jade.

Tremolite forms a series with actinolite and ferro-actinolite. Pure magnesium tremolite is creamy white, but the color grades to dark green with increasing iron content. It has a hardness on Mohs scale of 5 to 6. Nephrite, one of the two minerals known as the gemstone jade, is a green crystalline variety of tremolite.
The most common asbestiform mineral is chrysotile, commonly called "white asbestos", a magnesium phyllosilicate part of the serpentine group. Other asbestiform minerals include riebeckite, an amphibole whose fibrous form is known as crocidolite or "blue asbestos", and brown asbestos, a cummingtonite-grunerite solid solution series.
