Unlike most semi-hollow guitars which had their necks set in the bodies in the traditional style, the Starcaster retained Fender's bolt-on neck design, which at the time, used a three-bolt joint. The Starcaster was in production from 1976 to 1982. However, an advertisement from 1977 states that the Starcaster's first creation was in 1975. [1]
In 1968 Gibson changed the 330 to meet the body at the 19th. The 330 was hollow, whereas the 335 had a center block to prevent feedback. The 330 had P-90 pickups, while the 335 had humbuckers. [2] The 330 had a mahogany neck with dot inlays and a 22-fret Brazilian Rosewood fretboard. The guitar also had a nickel-plated trapeze-style tailpiece. [1]
The guitar had a maple laminated top, back and sides, with a set-neck made of mahogany. The florentine cutaway on the 175 was seen as an improvement over the Venetian cutaway that Gibson had been using on guitars. [4] The cutaway and the amplification of a jazz guitar allowed players to use the uppermost frets on the neck during performances. [5]
The Gibson ES series of semi-acoustic guitars (hollow body electric guitars) are manufactured by the Gibson Guitar Corporation. The letters ES stand for Electric Spanish, to distinguish them from Hawaiian-style lap steel guitars which are played flat on the lap. Many of the original numbers referred to the price, in dollars, of the model.

The 295 had the same measurements as the ES-175, but it came in gold finish and featured a combination trapeze bridge/tailpiece.
