Large Stock Cars was won by Chuck Stevenson and Clay Smith of the United States in a Lincoln Capri and Small Stock Cars by C.D. Evans and Walter Krause, Jr., also of the U.S., in a six-cylinder Chevrolet 210. Stevenson has the distinction of being the only person to ever win twice in the original race.

Midway through 1965 hall of fame racer Bob Zeigler sold his stock car, purchased land, formed a corporation with his brother Dick and cousin Karl John, and began building a race track in Evans Mills, New York. [1] [2] The facility opened in 1967 as the Evans Mills Speedway with a dirt surface, but was paved to start the 1968 racing season. [3]
Roger Walker Evans (born December 3, 1938) is an American former professional off road racing driver and member of the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was also a driver and owner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Nicknamed "The Legend", he is the father of off-road racer Evan Evans. [2] He resides in Riverside, California.
