Tarkio Township is one of eleven townships in Atchison County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,752. [3] Tarkio Township was organized in 1845, and named after the nearby Tarkio River. [4]
Tarkio is a city in Tarkio Township, Atchison County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,506 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] It was platted in 1880 and incorporated in 1881.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 550 square miles (1,400 km 2), of which 547 square miles (1,420 km 2) is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km 2) (0.5%) is water. [5] Atchison's western boundary for the most part is the Missouri River and Nebraska. An 1867 flood straightened a bend in the river north of Watson.
