The Southern African Development Community Regional Trunk Road Network or SADC RTRN is a trans nation road network across Southern Africa. [1] The projects in Africa being developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), [2] [3] the African Development Bank (ADB), and the African Union in conjunction with the Southern African Development Community.
The talks of the project began during the early 2000s where leaders of the 4 SADC community members met to create a shorter/alternative path for cargo into the region from the Dar es salaam port. The last time the region saw a major infrastructure investment was during the colonial times.

In 2010, SADC passed the Regional Energy Access Strategy and Action Plan, which aims to combine regional energy resources as a means of ensuring the entire SADC region has access to affordable, sustainable electricity. The plan’s goal is to reduce the number of people in the region without access to energy by 50 percent in the next ten years.
