He has been a constant fixture in the winner circle of the Art Association of the Philippines’ Annual Art Competition, the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Competition, Philip Morris’ Philippine Art Awards, the GSIS Painting Competition, the NCCA Diwa ng Sining Award, and the Shell National Students Art Competition, to name a few.
It is located at the GSIS Building within the Financial Center Area of Bay City. The museum features artworks of Filipino artists from the colonial period to the contemporary period and also serves as an exhibit area for Filipino artists. Education. Born to a family of artists, Galicano studied painting under his uncle, the Cebuano realist master Martino Abellana from 1961–1965 . In 1965 Galicano arrived in Manila and took up fine arts at the University of the East where he apprenticed under abstract painter Florencio Concepcion who taught him abstract design.
