Livedo reticularis is a common skin finding consisting of a mottled reticulated vascular pattern that appears as a lace-like purplish discoloration of the skin. [1] The discoloration is caused by reduction in blood flow through the arterioles that supply the cutaneous capillaries, resulting in deoxygenated blood showing as blue discoloration ().
They range in size from 0.5–8 cm (0.20–3.15 in). The lesions sometimes increase size and spread over time and may not be complete rings but irregular shapes. Distribution is usually on the thighs and legs but can also appear on the upper extremities, areas not exposed to sunlight, trunk or face.
Erythema marginatum (also known as chicken wire erythema) [1] is an acquired skin condition which primarily affects the arms, trunk, and legs. [2] It is a type of erythema (redness of the skin or mucous membranes) characterised by bright pink or red circular lesions which have sharply-defined borders and faint central clearing.
The legs and face are the most common sites involved, although cellulitis can occur on any part of the body. [1] The leg is typically affected following a break in the skin. [1] Other risk factors include obesity, leg swelling, and old age. [1] For facial infections, a break in the skin beforehand is not usually the case. [1]
