The Fair moved to its new location in 2009 at the Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. The Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours was founded in France in 1824. They came to the United States in the 1880s and came to Washington in 1905 during a typhoid epidemic to provide healthcare. [2] They were particularly beneficial during a Spanish flu outbreak after World War I. [2]
Under the guidance of the Sisters of Bon Secours, St. Mary's opened its doors in 1966. Over the years, the hospital expanded to help serve the community, growing from an initial size of 169 beds and only 250 employees. Today, St. Mary's has evolved into a state-of-the-art 391-bed facility.
