Hostetter is a census-designated place [3] located in Unity Township, Westmoreland County in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. It is located near Pennsylvania Route 981 . As of the 2010 census [ 4 ] the population was 740 residents.
Together with his father, he developed the Hostetter's "Celebrated" Bitters. [2] [3] [4] Shortly after, he became associated with George W. Smith and started the company, Hostetter & Smith; it later became known as Hostetter & Co. [1] The bitters was used as patent medicine by Northern soldiers during the Civil War and served in saloons. The company was founded by Helmut Weymar and Amos Hostetter Sr. and with $2.5 million of capital in 1969 from a group of investors that included Nabisco. [1] Weymar, who was a childhood friend of Hostetter's son Amos Jr., had studied commodities at MIT. As a result of his PhD thesis work on cocoa, Weymar took a job, working for Nabisco in 1965.
