Kwikset SmartKeys Vs. Regular Locks. As a locksmith I have used and repaired Kwikset SmartKey locks. Occasionally folks ask me which type of lock I recommend, SmartKey locks or "regular" locks. My honest answer is that it depends. However, before I tout my own personal opinion I believe it is prudent to list several of the PROs and CONs first;
We are renting out the rooms individually on a month-by-month basis using Airbnb. We use the Kwikset 912 to lock the rooms, the 914 for the front door, and the 916 for the back doors. We just signed up for the RemoteLock software to connect all of our locks and generate codes. We already use Smart Things as our smart hub.

You simply insert the working key, quarter turn the lock, remove key (using the included tool), insert new key you want to use, 3/4 turn back the other way and you’re done. Its a multifamily so unfortunately won't be able to use the same key but thanks for the advice. @Brady Boyer.
User Stats. Smart lock with decent battery life? I bought my first property in late October and have been going through remodel. We have tried adding a Wi-Fi extender, called tech support, done all their recommendations and it still goes offline. We even replaced the whole lock unit. Have you had this experience? Did you find a solution?
I had plantation shutters on the sliders in a past home. They were the shoji-type where each panel was on an overhead track. Beautiful with the louvres open or closed, but when you need egress, the louvres must be closed and panels stacked to one side. The patio door frame was enclosed in a shadowbox casing to finish the look.
Set a straightedge (such as a framing square) on the threshold and adjust the other screws to make sure the adjustable strip is straight. Close the door and check for light. Readjust the threshold until you've eliminated the light. I would remove 1 of the remaining screws and check thread metric or SAE for replacement.
The internals are mostly plastic, allowing them to easily be broken with a specialized tool, or even a screw driver, and show no external signs of forced entry. Takes about 15 seconds to break a kwikset lock, and the bigger issue is, once broken they can re-lock the door and you have no idea. Actually, they're metal, I've disassembled one ...
