  4. Can I shoot 22 short in a 22 LR chamber? - The Firing Line

    thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105429

Yes, .22 Short can fire thruogh a .22 LR, Long chamber, enough will lead to a carbon ring forming THAT may hang a long er case from seating in the chamber. Take a pipe cleaner , dipped in solvent and swab the chamber, is the simple way to avoid. Throat erosion is not a problem with modern cartridges in .22.

The main practical difference Contender vs bolt handgun is the Contender is about a 40-50ksi action where the bolt action will handle 65ksi rounds. The Encore improved that, but at a huge weight penalty. I think both benefit from moderate sized cases loaded to moderate pressures. 30 Herrett and 375 JDJ are both excellent examples of this!

Posts: 24. Bolt action handguns are for very specific purposes. Hunting and extreme accuracy, which include metallic silhouette. They don't seem to be very popular with people who want a pocket gun for defense. There's a third reason. I used to have a single shot contender with which I tested hot loads.

Posts: 489. Vertical vs angled pistol grip. I'm not talking about the forward grips. This is about the primary pistol grip of the gun (mostly applies to AR style guns, but a lot of modern bolt actions have AR pistol grips these days). Just for easy comparison, the angles I'm comparing are Magpul MOE grip vs. Magpul MOE K2 grip.

  9. Shooting Left Handed with a RH Bolt Action? - The Firing Line

Posts: 1,903. As a natural lefty I was stuck shooting with RH bolt action rifles growing up and aimed with my left eye shooting with my left hand. I did everything else left handed so I never gave it a second thought. During Boot Camp the instructor watched me shoot a bit and pulled me off the firing line.

I had a Savage bolt action pistol in 243 that actually held 2 rounds in an internal magazine. I think it weighed as much as my 20” bbl M94 30-30, I didn’t keep it it for long. I do really like Contenders though.

  11. Bolt action "stiff" - The Firing Line Forums

Savages (at least the dozen or so I have used) are notoriously "stiff" on the bolt lift due to the rough surfaces of the cocking cams.
