Fortune (2021 population: 1,285) [1] is a Canadian town located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Fortune is situated on the western side of the Burin Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland and was incorporated as a town in 1945. The town is located near the southeastern boundary of Fortune Bay.

Green Island (in French: Île verte) is a rocky [citation needed] island near the mouth of Fortune Bay, Newfoundland. It is located about 10 km (6 mi) west of the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland near Point May, and 10 km (6 mi) east of Saint Pierre Island in the French overseas collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Fortune Bay—Cape La Hune is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. When created in 1975 it was called Fortune-Hermitage. As of 2011, there are 6,053 eligible voters living within the district. [1] The district covers a larger section of Newfoundland's south coast.
An 1884 pilot guide discusses "Fortune harbor" in Notre Dame Bay: "Fortune harbor is a land-locked anchorage, situated 2 miles southeastward of Bagg head. Two entrances are formed by Sweeny island, that to the eastward of the island being only 30 yards wide and having a depth of 12 feet at low water.
