If a cyst was resolving on its own, it should have resolved within months not years. Along with my splenic cyst I also have an enlarged spleen that is just literally under 11 inches... And according to the same radiologist my spleen is enlarged but my liver is. Yet another discrepancy on his MRI report.
I have ET, 69 years old, experiencing fatigue and headaches. First hematologist recommended Hydroxyurea for counts hovering around 500. Second MPN specialist prescribed 2 low-dose aspirin only for the time being. Just had an ultrasound for possible enlarged spleen. My question is: what if spleen is enlarged? What would the ramifications be?
I had my pancreas, gallbladder, and spleen removed 3 months ago. Initial recovery in the hospital was tough. Lots of extra fluid weight, drains, pain, GI issues. Now that I'm home and it's been 3 months, the main things are diarrhea and adjusting to being an insulin dependent diabetic. I'm 41 years old and was in good shape prior to surgery.
Hello all. I have CLL and thus had a very enlarged spleen because of it. The average spleen is 12-14 CM’s in length and mine had grown to over 21 CM’s in length. This was a very dangerous situation for me as I continued to be active in sports, more specifically cycling and hockey. Even though I’m 62 yrs of age, I really give er. Lolol.
My doctor (oncologist) had me have an ultrasound to check the size of my spleen and it showed it to be enlarged at 18cm with normal being about 12cm. I was diagnosed with PV three years ago and have been on hydroxyurea with periodic phlebotomies since then. My red and white blood cells and platelet #’s are consistently above normal.
A couple of days before the procedure took place my Doctor decided to try a drug called VONJO. It is taken orally. Within two weeks of starting the Vonjo my pain degreased significantly. Within a month my spleen was no longer enlarged, the pain was totally gone and I was back to eating a full meal.
During surgery my spleen was able to be saved. The dead part of my spleen was removed and the cyst was cut in half and cut from my diaphragm. The cyst was left to preserve my spleen and continuously drains into my abdominal cavity. I went for my last follow up CT scan in January 2018 with my surgeon.
An enlarged spleen is characterized as one that is larger than 12 cm (approximately 5 inches) in length or over 400 grams (approximately 14 ounces) in weight. Splenomegaly usually occurs as a result of secondary causes rather than primary diseases of the spleen and is considered a rare condition, but can affect anyone.
I now also take a GasX several times daily, as needed. It's made a huge difference in the left side pain from the spleen area. Not any more pain from there and the gas is well controlled. I'm now a very happy camper in this area. Hopefully, some of this may help you or others.
