"Escape Hybrid and Toyota Prius are basically at the same level right now. Ford and Toyota both use the SAME eCVT (electronic continually variable transmission) from Aisen. The eCVT is what makes the Ford and Toyota "full hybrids" as opposed to the mild hybrids offered by Honda and GM". Be careful with how you discuss the eCVTs.

I've got a 2009 Escape Hybrid with 76K miles on it. I've experienced braking problems when traveling down very steep grades (i.e. Mt. Whitney portal to valley, etc..., 10+% downgrades). Specifically, the vehicle shakes severely and the regenerative power/battery meter doesn't indicate that it's being regenerated, as it normally does when the ...

I've had my Escape Hybrid for one month as of August 30 and have experienced a high pitched squeal on two occasions, both times as I was returning home after extensive highway driving (1.5 hours and 5 hours); the squealing occurred as I was travelling more slowly (approximately 40-50km/hr) in a residential neighbourhood and was not breaking.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD. It's in for service since last Friday at a local dealership. I had it in mainly for the recall. That job was done within 2 hours. It's still there, because of a noise I noticed coming from the front when braking. It only occurs when braking. Does not matter either at high or low speed.

I bought a 2006 ford escape hybrid two years ago. I really loved it and loved the gas saving it gave me. Two major problems. Anyone else notice the seat fabric on the front seats getting loose. Wrinkles in the material and not the underseating. It was so bad that I finally took it in for inspection and repair.

I have a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid and am having trouble with the GPS Navigation system. For the first 6 to 8 months of ownership, the GPS worked perfectly and the car icon was always exactly where it should be. Since late May, the icon that places the car on the map is consistantly behind where the car is actually on the road.

Sorry to hear you were quoted $600 for two new tone rings. My 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid had to have both replaced (at a Ford Dealer) for only $230 total. That was this summer (2010) and I've experienced no problems since. Many report that dealers and repair shops insist on replacing the axles too -- at considerably more expense.

I have been dealing with this same problem on my 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid for the last few months. 12v battery has been replaced twice, car has been jumped multiple times, have yet to find a mechanic that can figure out where the battery drain is coming from. At the end of my rope with Ford at this point.
