There is no inherent right of a land owner to boot a car on their premises. Theres is no inherent right for a person to park their car on privately owned land, either. landowners do have an inherent right to remove unwelcome cars at the expense of the car owner. I'd rather get a boot then have to pay an UBER to the tow place and pay a $300+ tow ...

And you cant boot on the property if you own it, you have to hire a booting co. But in a suburb the answer i would say is yes. You boot the car in your driveway because they are trespassing. Then charge them 100 to buy the car back from you or call the police to arrest them and tow the car. Thats my best guess.
Ive got a 2015 Skoda Superb Se Tdi Estate, and the boot has suddenly decided to stop working. It's an electric lock with no manual opening method (i.e. key lock) and even though the central locking is open the boot will not open. When you press the release handle, the electric mechanism doesn't kick in at all...it's like it is 100% dead.
I called him and got a boot and when they would park in our spaces, I'd walk out and boot them. Then I'd call my friend and they'd come and drive the car away. $50 cash to unboot, or $150 to remove from impound. I'd leave a note on the car to come to my unit to unboot or it would be towed within the hour.
Boot tear doesn't necessarily indicate whether an axle is bad or not...but parts generally wear out pretty eventually side to side, and the car is already up in the air to replace the bad side. Doesn't matter if it's sway bar links, ball joint, axles...always do pairs.
What you have here is a question of civil liability. It sounds like you had the boot on there for a couple of days, but it also sounds like you don't really know how long the boot was on there. So your worst-case scenario is $150 in civil liability. It was smart to video the guy coming for the boot -- that way you can prove that he got it back.
hypothetically if i cut a car boot from a private company, on private properties, how much trouble am i in? I parked in an apartment complex visiting a friend, came out to find my car was booted, it was a very cheap boot, the company is the same one that does the predatory booting all over plaza midwood and university area.
For the work trucks we take out the 2 bolts that hold up the port and zip tie it up higher, to make it that much less convenient for employees to remove it. It takes less than 5 minutes. We have had one car stolen, it notified us, we called the cops and they found the car parked and running at a convenience store and nabbed the guy.
They make insertable boot warmers with 12v plugs on them. I used that before I got a heated boot bag for Xmas one year. Like a sous vide, If you insulate the boots while the boot warmers are on, it might work a lot better. Insulated grocery bag from Costco or Aldi might work well for that purpose…. Example:
