Yes, a lung nodule can be cancerous. But most lung nodules aren't cancerous. Lung nodules are small clumps of cells in the lungs. They're very common. Most lung nodules are scar tissue from past lung infections. Lung nodules usually don't cause symptoms. They're often found by accident on a chest X-ray or CT scan done for some other reason.
This process has been well established in liver tumors and kidney tumors, and experts in Mayo Clinic's lung ablation specialty group are investigating its use in lung tumors. Why it's done Although ablation is still relatively new and novel, it may potentially play a role in people who cannot tolerate surgical resection or alternate treatment ...
Welcome here. I'm glad that you found us. So, you are really still at the point of determining if your nodule is part of the 60% that are benign (usually caused by inflammation or pneumonia, etc.). At this point a CT Scan only show the nodule, as well as any growth if it was a nodule previously discovered.
However, a nodule that is large and hard or causes pain or discomfort is more worrisome. You will likely want to have it checked by your doctor. Certain factors increase your risk of thyroid cancer, such as a family history of thyroid or other endocrine cancers and having a history of radiation exposure from medical therapy or from nuclear fallout.
Revolutionizing lung cancer care with a single-procedure pathway. Adding mobile 3D imaging to shape-sensing robotic-assisted bronchoscopy enables researchers to precisely access previously unreachable lung nodules, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and facilitating targeted treatments. This pilot study is a step forward in transforming lung cancer ...

Shortness of breath. Wheezing.
Lexie is right about a 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser) nodule. It is small and at that size would be a hard target for a needle biopsy. Nodules happen for many reasons and here is my go to source of information about the various types and causes for lung nodules.
(CT) from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) published in 2011, there is a growing urgency to address the uncertainties and apparent limits of CT screening, including: • High rates of false positive scans. A non-cal-cified nodule of any size will be found in approxi-mately 50% of those undergoing CT screening
