411 is a telephone number for local directory assistance in Canada and the United States. Until the early 1980s, 411 – and the related 113 number – were free to call in most jurisdictions. In the United States, the service is commonly known as "information", [ 1 ] although its official name is "directory assistance".

Sponsors cover part of the service cost by playing advertising messages during the call. Callers always hear an ad at the beginning of the call, and then another after they have made their request.
GOOG-411 (or Google Voice Local Search) was a telephone service launched by Google in 2007, that provided a speech-recognition-based business directory search, and placed a call to the resulting number in the United States or Canada. [1] The service was accessible via a toll-free telephone number.
In September 2019, the service was revamped and rebranded again as Voice Info, with once again a toll-free number (866) 895-3124, [12] however this number was deactivated in July 2020.
