Interior Design was founded by Harry V. Anderson in Manhattan in 1932. [2] He was also the publisher and editor of the magazine, which temporarily ceased publication during World War II . [ 2 ] Following the war Anderson and John Hay Whitney of Whitney Communications Company relaunched the magazine. [ 2 ]

Davis Allen (July 13, 1916 – May 13, 1999) was an American architect, interior, and furniture designer. He was noted as a pioneer in the design of interior corporate environments and had a forty-year tenure at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill .
Allen is the son of Laura (née Parrish) and Herbert Allen Jr., former president of Allen & Company, [1] and grandson of Herbert A. Allen, Sr. who co-founded Allen & Company with his older brother, Charles Robert Allen, Jr. [2] Allen & Company was one of the first in the industry to specialize in corporate takeovers. [2]
