In 1961, the school moved to a new site on Marchbanks Avenue, the current site of McCants Middle School, and became co-ed in 1962. Prior to 1971, T.L. Hanna was Anderson School District 5's all-white high school (Westside was the African-American school); in 1971, the district finally integrated after the Supreme Court's 1954 ruling in Brown v.
Anderson Secondary School was founded in 1960 as a girls' primary school. In 1964, it became a girls' secondary school and began admitting boys in 1965. The school has occupied several sites. Previously situated at Stevens Road and Anderson Road (from which it got its name), the school moved to Ang Mo Kio Street 44 in 1984.
The district is in White County. The district includes the townships of: Carmi, Hawthorne, Phillips, most of Burnt Prairie and Emma, and parts of Enfield, Heralds Prairie, and Mill Shoals.
