For steel-stringed acoustic-guitars, many Guitar Craft participants use either an .011–.058 inch set [5] or an .011–.059 inch set; [22] string-sets may be purchased as a set from a manufacturer or purchased singly and assembled by the guitarist.
One end is pierced for the string; the other is squared off to fit in a tuning lever socket. The middle section, which would pass through the wood, is tapered. Typically, a guitar's body is a sound box, of which the top side serves as a sound board that enhances the vibration sounds of the strings. In standard tuning the guitar's six strings [2] are tuned (low to high) E 2 A 2 D 3 G 3 B 3 E 4. Guitar strings may be plucked individually with a pick (plectrum) or fingertip, or strummed to play chords.
Classical guitar strings are strings manufactured for use on classical guitars. While steel-string acoustic guitar strings and electric guitar strings are made of metal, modern classical guitar strings are made of nylon and nylon wound with wire, which produces a different sound to the metal strings .
The Yepes 10-string guitar adds four strings (resonators) tuned in such a way that they (along with the other three bass strings) can resonate in sympathy with any of the 12 chromatic notes (or their primary harmonics) that can occur on the higher strings; the idea behind this being an attempt at enhancing and balancing sonority.
