Lafayette Township was the last township in Coshocton County to be organized, in 1835. [4] It was named for Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, whose death had occurred in 1834. [5] Statewide, the only other Lafayette Township is located in Medina County.
Samara, also known as the John E. Christian House, is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright located in West Lafayette, Indiana. The home is an example of the Usonian homes that Wright designed. Samara was built from 1954 to 1956 and was still occupied by the original owner, John E. Christian, until he died on July 12, 2015.
West Lafayette was laid out in 1850 by Robert Shaw and William Wheeler. Like many older American cities, Louisville has well-defined neighborhoods, many with well over a century of history as a neighborhood. The oldest neighborhoods are the riverside areas of Downtown and Portland (initially a separate settlement), representing the early role of the river as the most important form of commerce and transportation.
In 1894, a public water system was established for Louisville, and a sewage system installation followed in 1910. The town's Main Street became Louisville's first fully paved road in 1914. In 1960, Louisville's residents voted for the village to become a city. [6] [9]
