In June 1982, King Crimson followed Discipline with Beat, the first King Crimson album recorded with the same band lineup as the album preceding it. [112] Beat is the only album where Fripp had no involvement in the original mixing; Davies and Belew undertook production duties.
After several years of side projects, Fripp formed a group called Discipline in April 1981 with former King Crimson drummer Bruford, as well as vocalist and guitarist Adrian Belew, and bassist and Chapman stick player Tony Levin. By the time the band's debut album Discipline was released in October, they had adopted the King Crimson name. [12]
The group toured the United States in the autumn of 2014 and continued to tour throughout the world until 2021, including 2019 when King Crimson celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 2024, Levin and former King Crimson member Adrian Belew announced the creation of the supergroup Beat, which includes guitarist Steve Vai and drummer Danny Carey .
From the Three of a Perfect Pair tour onwards, this was dropped, leaving only the sung lyrics, although the original recording was played during tours in the band's mid-1990s "double trio" era. This practice continued during the 2024 "Beat" tour, which, while not technically King Crimson, included 2 of the 4 members that recorded the original.
