The Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge over Lady Bird Lake houses the world's largest urban bat population. When the bridge was refurbished in the 1980s, the new design created crevices underneath the structure that happened to be ideal for bats to roost in. The Columbine Trail is a 4 miles (6.4 km) long trail that slowly ascends the cañon beginning at Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center and makes its way up to the dirt parking lot at the top of the cañon. It is important to note that this trail is not a loop and the trail crosses N. Cheyenne Cañon Road multiple times.

Now it is an unincorporated community, historic district, and a rental cabin resort. It dates from around 1895.
