Cantonments in Pakistan (Urdu: چھاؤنی، پاکستان) are permanent military bases of the Pakistan Army, which are administered by Cantonment Boards under the control of the Military Lands & Cantonments Department (ML&C), Ministry of Defence, Government of Pakistan. Cantonments are established under and governed by the Cantonments Act 1924.
It is one of the oldest and most important cantonments of Pakistan. It was established in 1852 by the British Indian Army. As gleaned from the old records, the Sialkot Cantonment is the precursor of Wazirabad Garrison which was established for a sojourn from 1849–52.
Rattu Cantonment (Urdu: رٹو چھاؤنی) is a century plus old cantonment located at Rattu in Astore district of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located at an altitude of 9,000 ft above sea level. During summer, the weather remains pleasant but winters are harsh and temperatures range between ~20 °C to -35 °C.

The Drigh Road Cantonment, meant for civilians, was also founded nearby that same year, as stated in the Government of Bombay Revenue Department Notification No.4840/24 dated November 4, 1925. In 1947, it was renamed Faisal Cantonment. The boundaries of the Cantonment Board changed twice, once in 1988 and again in 1995.
It was originally established by the British in August 1839 as a military base for the British Army, and was taken over by the Pakistan Army in 1947. The cantonment maintains sewerage, sanitation, roads, buildings control, transfer of immoveable properties, death, birth and marriage record of the respective area.
