Charles Hirsch Barris (June 3, 1929 – March 21, 2017) [1] was an American game show creator, producer, and host, author, and songwriter. A key crew member of several hugely successful game shows, he was the creator of The Dating Game (1965-2021), the original producer of The Newlywed Game (1966-2013), and the host and producer of The Gong Show from 1977 to 1980, all for the network ABC.
On February 4, 1980, Chuck Barris revived this show for syndication with Los Angeles disc jockey Tom Campbell as host. This time around, the contestants answered general-knowledge questions for $50 apiece, and each game had a designated dollar value of $200–$1,000, with three games played per show.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is a 2002 American biographical spy film depicting the fictional life of game show host and producer Chuck Barris.The film was George Clooney's directorial debut, was written by Charlie Kaufman and starred Sam Rockwell as Barris, as well as Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, and Clooney.
The longtime announcer for Chuck Barris Productions was Johnny Jacobs, who served from 1965 until his death in 1982. Jacobs announced for such Barris game shows as The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game, Treasure Hunt, and The Gong Show. Tony McClay is Barris' secondary announcer, as he was sub for Jacobs, most often in 1980 and 1982.
