The residence in Bexley, Ohio was commissioned by Malcolm Jeffrey, the son of J. A. Jeffrey, founder of Jeffrey Manufacturing Company. It was designed by Robert Gilmore Hanford, a Columbus-based architect. Ground was broken for the house in 1923 and it was completed in 1925. The Jeffreys occupied the home until Malcolm Jeffrey's death in 1930.

On August 21, 2000 on a construction site near Concord Mills, a natural gas pipeline ruptured sending flames to heights of about 100 feet (30 m). [4] As a result of the explosion, law enforcement officials closed local roads around the mall and Interstate 85 around rush hour (4 p.m.); the roads were reopened one hour later after the situation was contained.
The building was converted into 65 apartments in 1987 and is currently managed by Harvest Properties LLC. A similar proposal to convert Berkshire Mill No.4 into 150 apartments was made in 2014 but development has not started and the building remains vacant. [3]
