The city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, has several Football Clubs within its boundaries. Due to the popularity of rugby league almost all association football clubs in the city have the suffix "A.F.C." instead of the more prevalent "F.C." used in most of England, such as Leeds Woodville A.F.C. who were one of the earliest Victorian teams.

The 1905–06 season was Leeds City's second season in existence and their first season in the Football League, having competed in the West Yorkshire League during the previous season. Leeds City finished sixth in the Second Division on 43 points. They also took part in the FA Cup, where they were eliminated in the Third Qualifying Round
At Salem Chapel in 1919, Leeds United was formed, [5] [6] and they received an invitation to enter the Midland League, being voted into it on 31 October 1919, [7] taking the place vacated by Leeds City Reserves. Following Leeds City's disbanding, Yorkshire Amateurs bought Elland Road stadium, and then sold it to Leeds United for £250. [8]
