Isle of Hope is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area , and at the 2020 U.S. census its population was 2,357. [ 4 ]
Typical of Georgia's inshore coastal islands, the Isle of Hope is completely surrounded by a tidal salt marsh. [3] Skidaway Island is located opposite the Skidaway River to the east and the Georgia mainland is located opposite the Moon River to the west. Wormsloe occupies most of the southern half of the Isle of Hope.

The Benedictine Priory of Savannah is a Catholic monastery of Benedictine monks located in Savannah, Georgia. [1] The priory was founded in 1877, and is a dependency of Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and thereby belongs to the American-Cassinese Congregation. [2] It currently operates the Benedictine Military School for boys.
It garrisoned Skidaway Island, Georgia, then on 17 March 1862 the battalion occupied the Isle of Hope, Georgia. On 21 April, it moved to Camp Mercer near Savannah where it was joined by Company F. On 4 June, the battalion transferred to James Island near Charleston. On 10 June, the unit skirmished with Union forces. [1]
