The main altar at St. Francis de Sales was consecrated by Archbishop W.H. Elder on April 27, 1887. It was a gift of Joseph Kleine and his wife Agnes Kleine, and was sculpted by Fred and Henry Schroeder of Cincinnati from designs by A. Kloster of New York. The altar of pure white Rutland marble and the white marble floor cost $20,000.

Cincinnati's first Catholic church, Christ Church, was organized in 1819, just beyond the city boundaries. [7] The first Catholic church in Dayton, Emmanuel Church, opened in 1837. [8] Soon additional parishes were formed in Hamilton and St. Martin, Brown County. Reverend Emmanuel Thienpont pioneered many parishes in the archdiocese. [9]
From 1986 to 1989, he served his curacy at St Mary's Church, Heworth in the Diocese of Durham. [2] He was an assistant curate at Church of St Michael and All Angels, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, between 1989 and 1990, and then an honorary curate of St Margaret's Church, Durham, between 1990 and 1994.
