The hall is located in Yukinoshita, Kamakura, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan (within precincts of the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū) and is the oldest public modern art museum in Japan, dating back to 1951. The building was designed by Junzo Sakakura .
