McAlester Public Schools operates public schools. The McAlester Public Library was built in 1970. As of 2010 the city has plans to build a new library. [26] The Friends of the McAlester Public Library is financing the new branch. [27] McAlester includes Kiamichi Technology Center, which has over 300 students per school year.
