Bartholomew [a] was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. In the Gospel of John, Nathanael is introduced as a friend of Philip, from Bethsaida (1:43-44). [2] The first disciples who follow Jesus are portrayed as reaching out immediately to family or friends: thus, Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote — Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph".
Philip seeks out Nathanael, and likely found him at Cana of Galilee, the native place of Nathanael (John 21:2). There are a variety of opinions on who exactly Nathanael is. However, according to Lapide most believe he is the Apostle Bartholomew. First, because the other gospels always join Philip and Bartholomew.

Chrysostom: "Nathanael, in difficulty as to Christ coming out of Nazareth, showed the care with which he had read the Scriptures: his not rejecting the tidings when brought him, showed his strong desire for Christ’s coming. He thought that Philip might be mistaken as to the place.

Chrysostom: "Nathanael knew from the Scriptures, that Christ was to come from Bethlehem, according to the prophecy of Micah, And thou, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,—out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel . On hearing of Nazareth, then, he doubted, and was not able to reconcile Philip's tidings with prophecy.
Still, he appears to be alluding to Psalm 2, "Yet have I set My King upon My holy hill of Zion. I will declare His precept: the Lord said to Me, You are My Son, today have I begotten You." It is believed that he may have been influenced in this remark by Philip who would have learned the nature of Christ from John the Baptist. [1] [2]
