Knox Farm Historic District is a historic farm complex and national historic district located near Cleveland, Rowan County, North Carolina. The Robert Knox House was built between 1854 and 1856, and is a two-story, single-pile, three-bay vernacular Greek Revival style frame dwelling. It has a two-story rear ell, one-story rear kitchen ell.
The Market House is a market house and town hall in the center of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. It was built in 1838 on the site of the old state house and Town Hall which burned down in 1831. [3] Fayetteville was the capital of North Carolina from 1789 to 1794.
The town dates from 1831 but was not incorporated until 1833. The first post office in Cleveland—which was named Cowansville at that time—was established on 18 March 1831 with John Cowan the first postmaster. On 7 January 1856, prior to the US Civil War and the completion of the Western Carolina Railroad, the town was renamed to Rowan Mills.
Level Cross is the hometown of the Petty racing family, beginning with patriarch Lee and his sons, driver Richard and engine builder Maurice. Richard was born in Level Cross in 1937 [3] and his brother Maurice was born there in 1939. [4] It was also the birthplace of their cousin, crew chief Dale Inman in 1936. [5]
Cleveland Township is one of fourteen non-functioning county subdivisions in Rowan County, North Carolina that were established in 1868. The township had a population of 2,817 according to the 2010 census. [1] [2] The only incorporated municipality in Cleveland Township is the town of Cleveland. [3]
