The Historical Society of Central Florida, formerly the Orange County Historical Society, is a historical society located in Orlando, Florida, United States.Located at the Orange County Regional History Center in the old Orange County Courthouse, the Historical Society collects and preserves the regional history of Central Florida.
The History Center is housed in the historic 1927 Orange County courthouse and home to the Historical Society of Central Florida’s collections. The five-story building was built for nearly $1 million by Orlando's first registered architect, Murry S. King. Construction began in May 1926, and the building was dedicated on October 12, 1927.
The Society published Orange County Medical History (1927), [4] [5] the Centennial Bibliography of Orange County (1989), Don Meadows’ The House of Bernardo Yorba (1963), Wayne Gibson’s The Olive Mill (1975), and Virginia Carpenter’s Cañada de la Brea: Ghost Rancho (1978). [3] In 1973, the Society launched the journal Orange Countiana. [6]
