Darren Belk is an English songwriter, bassist [1] and guitarist best known for his tenures in the bands Beachbuggy and The Wedding Present. Belk was roadie for the bands Cud and The Wedding Present whilst playing guitar and writing songs for his own band Bungalow in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
Belk quit the band and was replaced by Simon Cleave. Both Lockey and Cleave were former members of Tse Tse Fly, along with Paul Dorrington and Mark Goodham. The band still had material from their sabbatical year and went into the studio again to record Saturnalia. [1] This proved to be the last new material by The Wedding Present for a long time.
The Wedding Present's discography consists of 54 singles, 17 extended plays, 9 studio albums, 24 live albums and 21 compilation albums. The band were formed in 1985 in Leeds, England by David Gedge, Peter Solowka and Keith Gregory.
Watusi is a studio album by The Wedding Present. [4] [5] It was released in 1994 on Island Records. [1]It peaked at No. 47 on the UK Albums chart. [6]Watusi was re-issued by Edsel Records in 2014; the band played the album in its entirety during their autumn 2014 UK tour.
In 1992, The Wedding Present decided to release a limited edition single every month, each featuring an original track on the A side and a cover on the B side. The tracks were compiled as two LPs called Hit Parade 1 and Hit Parade 2 and re-released as a double CD in 2003 called The Hit Parade.
The US CD version contains the Wedding Present's cover of "Box Elder", an early song by then unknown American band Pavement. [10] A remastered CD version, released by BMG Camden in 2001, also features the B-sides of the "Kennedy" single, including a cover version of the Tom Jones hit "It's Not Unusual". [11]
