The church was renovated in 1877 when the pews were replaced by stalls, and the church was redecorated, under the supervision of F J Robinson of Derby, architect. [6] In 1972, the parish merged with Holy Trinity Church, Derby, and the building was closed in 1976 and disposed of in 1977. It was sold to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Ginther saw the neo-baroque St. Peter's as a "architectural cousin" to his neo-romanesque St. Bernard’s Church in Akron. Due to delays caused by the First World War, the church was finally dedicated on September 16, 1917. It has an ornate, baroque interior. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. [2]
