Eaton Rapids is a city in Eaton County in the U.S. state of Michigan.The population was 5,214 at the 2010 census. [4]The city is located in the south of Eaton Rapids Township, on the boundary with Hamlin Township, though it is politically independent of both townships.
As of the 2000 United States Census, [1] there were 3,821 people, 1,328 households, and 1,079 families in the township. The population density was 112.0 inhabitants per square mile (43.2/km 2).

The Eaton Rapids area was first settled in 1836, when a sawmill was built about two miles from what is now downtown Eaton Rapids. By 1836, a group of investors had built a dam on Spring Brook in Eaton Rapids, started work on a race, and built a grist mill. The village was first platted, and by 1837/38, houses had been built.
