Louis Agassiz Fuertes (February 7, 1874 – August 22, 1927) was an American ornithologist, illustrator and artist who set the rigorous and current-day standards for ornithological art and naturalist depiction and is considered one of the most prolific American bird artists, second only to his guiding professional predecessor John James Audubon.
2007: Birds: Images of Hawaii's Feathered Heritage; 2008: Birds & Bats of Palau; Pratt has illustrated at least 20 books, including several plates in the Handbook of the Birds of the World and he created several bird and mammal paintings in the Encyclopædia Britannica, despite having no formal art training. He specialised in bird-and-flower painting (Ch: huaniao hua, J: kachōga), one of the major artistic subjects, especially among professional Chinese painters. The commercial activity in the port of Nagasaki facilitated the spread of Western knowledge in Japan. Japanese people were also particularly interested in ancient Chinese culture.
