This 15,000 square foot space is the current home of the museum with more than 2,500 fossils, gemstones, meteorites, minerals, and mining artifacts. The name of the museum was changed from, the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, to Mines Museum of Earth Science, in 2019 during rebranding initiated by Executive Director, Renata Lafler.

The phosphate mining industry employed 2,200 people. The value of phosphate rock mined was US$2.2 billion. As of 2015, there are 10 active phosphate mines in four states: Florida, North Carolina, Idaho, and Utah. The eastern phosphate deposits are mined from open pits. The western deposits are mined from both surface and underground mines.
Among the material on display are various collections of mining instruments and tools, some from the Roman period, archaeological remains, mining machinery, a collection of minerals from the Iberian Pyrite Belt, etc. In the basement of the museum there is a reproduction of a subway mine from the Roman period, in a commitment to interpretation.
The museum also participates in efforts to inform the public about the mining industry.
