I was reviewing the HF 14" bandsaw. Seems like it has good reviews on the HF site (I wonder how much that's filtered). Someone mentioned that it's made in the same factory, and basically the same unit as Grizzly and a few other brands, with different options. The saw would not see much use other than resawing, so I don't want to invest $1000s.
The last one I checked out was Harbor Freights 14" model for $360. It's a little more than I wanted to spend and I know some of Harbor Freights stuff has a bad reputation. I have a lathe and miter saw from Harbor Freight and am quite happy with them and in the same turn there are things from them that have disappointed me.
Normally I buy better but pressed for cash right now. There is a 14' band saw at Harbor Freight on sale for about $360.00.I found a nearly new one on C/L for $125.00.Wadya think?
I've cut up about 30 trees so far. With the woodmizer blades the saw cuts smooth and straight. The blade that came with the saw was good for practicing but it mercifully broke before i got discouraged. I added 12 feet of track so i can now saw 21.5 foot lumber. So far i have built a deck (9.5 x 8') and am half way done with a shed.
This may annoy some people, but consider the Harbor Freight woodworking bandsaw, if there's a store in your area. It's basically the only power tool they sell that gets consistently not-bad results. It's a 14" saw that comes with a base, and if you replace the belt that comes with it with a link belt (such as the "vibration free link belt" sold ...
1# "Tyler", a female parts rep for Harbor Freight "1-800-444-3353. Told me this morning it would take ten weeks to get the parts if ordered. "BUT", she would see if any spares could be located in the warehouse. I took that as code for, you'll never hear from me again. Wow!, could not have been more wrong.
Taiwan saws are generally more respected than the Chinese ones. I suspect it has a lot in common with the older Grizzly 14" BSs - it looks very similar to the old G1019. The horsepower is a bit lower than the typical Chinese import, though. You're competing against the other used imports like Harbor Freight, Foremost and so on.
I found this web site and your post while researching this low-end Hud-Son saw. Thank you for initiating this thread, which lead me to this site! I am a former WoodMizer owner, and while I like their products, I don't feel I can justify that much capital committed to a hobby tool.
A table saw is the heart of the shop and even though that price is attractive, if it turns out to be junk that's a lot money to risk at my house. $300 more or so you could buy a better know saw. If it were me and trust me I am a bargain shopper, I would have to pass till it proves itself to be one of the Harbor Freight gems.
A Harbor Freight #95288 mobile base, is made to be sized to fit your particular machine. I have one under my band saw, and it works great. I have one under my band saw, and it works great. They do not put these on sale very often, but if you subscribe to Wood Magazine, there is a 20% off coupon in I think it was October's issue that is good ...
