Bessie Lee Mauldin (December 28, 1920 – February 8, 1983) [1] was an American bluegrass bassist, singer, songwriter, and a member of the bluegrass band “Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys” from 1953–1964. [2]
Constable grew up playing music as a part of the Wiseman family from western North Carolina. He began his professional career playing guitar with his mother's husband, the accomplished bluegrass musician Charlie Moore. As a teenager, he found work touring with Doug Dillard. He later moved to California to play with family band the Constables.
Eddy Merle Watson (February 8, 1949 – October 23, 1985) was an American folk and bluegrass guitarist. He was best known for his performances with his father, Doc Watson . Merle played and recorded albums together with his father from age 15 until his death in a tractor accident 21 years later. [ 1 ]
In 1986, Watson received the North Carolina Award and in 1994 he received a North Carolina Folk Heritage Award. He is a recipient of a 1988 National Heritage Fellowship awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts , which is the United States government's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. George Shuffler was born in Valdese, North Carolina, United States, on April 11, 1925. As was the case with many southern musicians, Shuffler's first experience with music was when he attended shape note singing schools in Valdese. Shuffler's affinity for music grew and at age twelve his father traded an old broken-down car for a Kalamazoo guitar.
In search of work, his family moved around a lot living in several states including Florida, Georgia, Texas, and North Carolina. They settled in Los Angeles, California, where his father, Herb Rice, introduced him to bluegrass music. Herb was a mandolin player and taught each of his four sons how to play.
From 1993, Baucom until 1996, Baucom was a member of Carolina with Lou Reid who started the band named Carolina. In 1996, Baucom stopped touring so he could freelance and teach music in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. [12] Baucom was a part-time member of the Mark Newton Band and the Kenny and Amanda Smith Band.
