The Birdsacre Sanctuary is set south of Ellsworth's central business district, on the west side of Maine State Route 3, which connects Ellsworth to Bar Harbor.The Stanwood homestead, standing near the road, is a modest c. 1850 Cape style wood-frame house, which housed much original material, including artifacts of Cordelia Stanwood, prior to the 2014 fire.
State Route 198 (SR 198) is a state highway on Mount Desert Island, Hancock County, Maine. It goes from the village of Northeast Harbor within the town of Mount Desert to State Routes 3 and 102 in Bar Harbor. The route passes near the Gulf of Maine and through Acadia National Park.
US 1A continues southeast towards the Down East region of the state, serving Ellsworth and several coastal towns. The freeway primarily serves as a bypass of Bangor and Brewer for travelers wishing to access the Down East/Bar Harbor region of Maine. It also connects I-95 to the region via US 1A.
