Ciudad Obregón is a city in southern Sonora. It is the state's second largest city after Hermosillo and serves as the municipal seat of Cajeme . As of 2020, the city has a population of 436,484.

The first inhabitants of Ciudad Obregón established at the Plano Oriente neighborhood when irrigation systems by the Richardson company started functioning in 1910. The train Sudpacífico established a station they called Cajeme. Cajeme then was a part of the municipio of Cócorit until it became the capital of the municipio on November 29, 1927.

The airport is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of Ciudad Obregón's city center, covering an area of 385 hectares (950 acres). Situated at an elevation of 62 metres (203 ft) above mean sea level, Ciudad Obregón's Airport features a runway measuring 2,300 square metres (25,000 sq ft) and an apron of 17,325 square metres (186,480 sq ft).
