Like the other poster posted, if it's 51% tequila, it can still be called tequila. So long as it is in Jalisco (for the most part, I think there are a few exceptions) and has a NOM and is approved by the Mexican government, it can be called tequila. 51% is the minimum amount that it can be and still called tequila.

Companies sell the used barrels but also use them themselves. Used Jack Daniel's barrels have a second life aging Canadian Mist Canadian Whisky, Korbel Brandy, Appleton Rum and Herradura Tequila. Early Times is only unusual in that it is a bourbon-style whiskey that combines actual straight bourbon with bourbon-style whiskey aged in used cooperage.

Some comments in another thread about Jack Daniel's got me thinking about this.I recently attended a presentation about Herradura Tequila. We tasted their Blanco, Reposado and Anjeo expressions. For those who don't know, Blanco (white) or Silver tequila is un-aged, Reposado is aged for less than ...

I enjoy a good tequila now and then, both in margaritas and straight. Yes, straight. A good tequila can be sipped just like a fine bourbon. It so happens that I am a fan of Herradura, specifically their reposado, so I noticed with interest the news that Brown-Forman has acquired the company, which...

Dining in a Mexican restaurant the other night, I enjoyed a Herradura Reposado. If bourbon is often misunderstood and wrongly considered a harsh, unsophisticated drink, tequila has it even worse. Sipping a Herradura Reposado neat is a lovely experience. I would do it much more often if there were...

Tonight I made 3 margaritas, drinking small amounts of each. Each was made with a half lime squeezed, about half-ounce triple sec, 2 ounces tequila. Well stirred, no ice. After tasting each, I added a dash of Grand Marnier to each, which was a slight improvement. The first used a blend of tequilas ...
