Woodcraft was founded in 1928 by George Eaton and Richard Merrill in Boston, Massachusetts. [7] In the 1960s, Roger Wells bought Woodcraft and moved the headquarters to Woburn, Massachusetts. Woodcraft moved into a warehouse and corporate office after the success of its initial printed ads which led to creation of its catalog.
The two buildings served the town and the 49er California Gold Rush miners. The town of Quincy was named by James Bradley after his hometown of Quincy, Illinois. The Plumas House was busy, as Quincy was the county seat for Plumas County. A historical marker is in the town center park at the Southwest corner of Main Street and Court Street.

The American Ranch and Hotel was founded in 1852 by H.J. Bradley. The structure has the distinction of being the first in the area constructed of sawn lumber.
