This is a list of closed and open churches within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.In 2006, the Diocese started the "Called to BE Church" initiative. As of November 2015, this initiative had reduced the number of parishes to 126 [1] through church mergers and closings in response to declining church enrollment, priest shortages, and changing demographics.
Church of the Holy Trinity – Established in 1998; present parish formed from the merger of the Churches of St. Agnes, St. Marie (originally St. Joseph's Church), and St. Patrick's churches; St. Agnes and St. Patrick's had already merged by 1995. The old church was replaced by a new memorial church and rectory in 1902 as a gift from Countess Carola de Laugier-Villars and her sister, Mrs. Geraldyn Redmond, in memory of their mother. The new stone church was consecrated on June 28, 1903, by Cardinal Farley. The parish school, also a memorial gift, was established in 1888.
St. Vito's church is the parish church. "While the church of Most Holy Trinity remains open for public worship, Masses and other sacraments will not be celebrated on a regular basis at the church of Most Holy Trinity." [2] Father Joseph Tierney is the current Administrator of Most Holy Trinity-Saint Vito Parish. [3]
A mission church was built on this land from 1895 to 1899, designed by Barney and Chapman. [1] It was consecrated on May 6, 1899. [6] Although the mission was administered by St. James, it was called Holy Trinity. [1] It became its own parish in 1951. The church complex includes St. Christopher House and a parsonage. [1]

Taylor in his article Medieval New York - Holy Trinity Church the church was built deliberately in the Byzantine style, unusual for the time, and has been "considered to be one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in this country."
One building within the district, Cohoes Music Hall, was listed on the National Register before the creation of the district. Another National Register listing, the Silliman Memorial Presbyterian Church, was demolished in 1998. A similar fate befell a church building designed by Richard Upjohn after it burned in 1894, but its rectory survives.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic church near the Mansion District in Albany, New York, United States. Built in the period of the 1848–1852, it is the mother church of the Diocese of Albany. In 1976 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has several claims to architectural and ecclesiastical history.
