The University of Texas at Austin, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute Michael Joseph Ryan is an American biologist, author, Clark Hubbs Regents Professor in Zoology in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, and Senior Research Associate at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.
Mattson received his B.S. in Zoology from Iowa State University in 1979, his M.S. in Biology at University of North Texas (originally North Texas State University) in 1982, and his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Iowa in 1986. [1] He was then a postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University. [2]
In 1971, for a year, he worked as a teacher at the Children's School of Science, Woods Hole, MA. From 1971 to 1972 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the same years worked as postdoc at the McArdle Laboratory of University of Wisconsin–Madison.
