The Leedy Manufacturing Company (also known as the Leedy Drum Company) was an American manufacturer of percussion instruments headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.Leedy was highly successful in the early twentieth century, [1] and was at one point the largest manufacturer of drums and other percussion instruments in the world.
This was invented by Seamus O'Kane, from Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, to combat the damp conditions of Donegal in 1975. This system was copied from banjo design but adapted for bodhráns. For a few years only about six drums of this type were made, so it was not until the idea was taken and refined by makers that it caught on.

North Drums were invented by then Boston resident and drummer Roger North, while he was a member of band Quill. He was later the longtime drummer of the Holy Modal Rounders and the Clamtones. North created the fiberglass-shelled drums by hand for his own usage in late 1968, and was granted a U.S. patent, #3603194 on the design in 1971. [1]
